This issue presents twelve compelling research articles spanning diverse areas of medicine. Among the international contributions, a Japan–US collaborative team reports on the development of the DMIST scoring system for monitoring diabetic foot ulcers. Two Japan–Cambodia research groups explore the impact of a health education program on cervical cancer screening uptake among primary school teachers in Phnom Penh and share a seven-year experience in a pathology capacity development project in Cambodia. From Japan, notable articles examine the factors associated with the withholding of invasive mechanical ventilation during the early phase of the COVID-19 response and provide ethical analyses of these decisions. Other studies include a path analysis of factors influencing life satisfaction in patients with narcolepsy; a case report of spermatic cord paraganglioma highlighting unique imaging findings and diagnostic challenges; and a fatal case of pyogenic spondylitis rapidly progressing to epidural abscess caused by a novel Staphylococcus aureus ST9378 strain. Additional articles investigate the frequency and clinical significance of peripheral blood eosinophilia in dermatomyositis patients; introduce ARISE, an international clinical trial network for pandemic preparedness; propose evaluation frameworks for Japanese medical technology transfer projects in low- and middle-income countries; review mindfulness-based interventions for families of patients with advanced cancer; and describe a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to the prolonged hospitalization of a child with obsessive-compulsive disorder and autism spectrum disorder.
